Celtic boss Neil Lennon denies speeding in Perthshire

The Parkhead boss will face a trial next month after denying clocking 83 miles per hour at a junction where there has been a series of fatal crashes in recent years.

Lennon’s solicitor Peter Malone entered a not guilty plea to the charge at Perth’s Justice of the Peace Court yesterday.

Neil Francis Lennon, 41, from Glasgow, denied speeding at 83 mph on the A9 Perth to Stirling road at Blackford on 6 October last year.

Lennon was allegedly caught by a speed camera set up to try and make the Blackford junction in Perthshire safer as part of an upgrading programme.

Lennon joined Celtic as a player in 2000 and won several honours during his seven years with the club. He left in 2007 before returning the following year as a coach and was named manager in 2010.

Speed cameras were placed at the Blackford junction, south of Perth, as part of works to reduce the number of serious accidents at the location.

However, in 2009 a fatal accident inquiry heard that businessman Graham Davies may have fatally crashed on the same stretch of road after over-reacting and braking too hard when he spotted the speed camera.
