Cargo ship crashes into harbour at Ayr

A cargo ship has been damaged after crashing into a harbour in Scotland, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said.

The ship, named UFA, hit the west pier in Ayr in South Ayrshire at 1.30pm today.

As a result a hole was made in the ship above the waterline.

The Troon lifeboat and Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team were called into action but were not required.

A spokeswoman for the MCA said: “A cargo ship called the UFA collided with the west pier in Ayr and there is damage to the vessel, including a hole above the waterline.

“There are no injuries and no pollution.

“At the moment it is anchored off the coast.”
