Airdrie boss Gary Bollan escapes ban for speeding

A FOOTBALL manager has escaped a driving ban despite being clocked speeding at almost double the limit through a busy city centre street.

Airdrieonians manager Gary Bollan was caught speeding in his Jaguar X-Type at 50 miles per hour in a residential area with a 30 mph limit.

The former Rangers, Dundee United and St Johnstone player was driving a car with his easily recognised personalised number plate B10 LAN.

Bollan, from Newbigging, Broughty Ferry, admitted speeding at 50 miles per hour on Dundee road near Branklyn Gardens in Perth on 26 November last year.

He admitted the offence by letter at Perth’s Justice of the Peace court and had five penalty points imposed on his licence. He was also fined 200 pounds.

The former Scotland under-21 international player, who took over as League One Airdrie’s boss last October, was not present in court for the case.

Bollan also played for Livingston, Motherwell, Brechin and Clyde during a career which saw him compete in European competition for four different Scottish clubs.

As a manager, he led Livingston to the Third Division title by 15 points in his first season in charge, before gaining a second consecutive promotion the following season.

He was dismissed in February 2012 with the club citing Bollan’s failure to develop enough young players as the reason for his sacking. He was hired by struggling Airdrie in October and has led them on a run of one defeat in their last nine games.
