A92 crash: Police officer airlifted to hospital after smash

An officer has been airlifted to hospital following a major crash.

The accident happened on the A92 near Fife, between Crossgates and Cowdenbeath this afternoon.

A police vehicle and a car transporter were involved in the crash.

The police 4x4 had been stationary on the side of the road assisting another car that had stopped when the accident happened.

Witnesses to the accident have said traffic is queuing back as far as the Queensferry Crossing.

Senior Investigating Officer, Inspector Andy Mather, said: "We can confirm that the officer injured in a crash on the A92 this afternoon was airlifted to hospital in Dundee and is not thought to have sustained life threatening injuries.

"The officer is in a stable condition and we are providing support to all those involved.

"The road remains closed while enquiries to establish the full circumstances are completed."
