70-year-old Aberdeenshire crash victim named

THE elderly woman who died on Monday in a single vehicle crash in Aberdeenshire has been named as Veronica Haggart, 70, from the Fettercairn area.

Ms Haggart was driving her blue Vauxhall Corsa on the B9120 road between Laurencekirk and Fettercairn when it crashed at Bogmill Bridge.

The road was closed and local diversions were put in place for several hours while police investigated the cause of the collision

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”

Meanwhile. a 65-year-old woman who was airlifted to hospital on Christmas Eve following a two car collision on the A96 Aberdeen to Elgin road was said to be “serious” in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses to the collision which happened around 12.10pm on Tuesday on the Glens of Foudland stretch of the road, near Bains Hole.

A force spokesman said: “The collision involved an X-registered silver BMW 3 series motor car which was being driven east towards Inverurie by a 65 year-old female, and a black Audi A3 motor car which was being driven west by a 58 year-old male. There were no other persons in either vehicle.

“As a result of the collision, the 65 year-old female was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by an RAF Search and Rescue helicopter from Lossiemouth, where her condition is described as serious. The 58 year-old male driver of the Audi was conveyed by road ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he has been treated for a broken collar bone and other minor injuries.”

Inspector Ewan Innes from the Aberdeenshire and Moray Division Road Policing Unit said: “Our enquiries are at an early stage and at this time it is too early to speculate as to the exact cause of the collision. I am aware that there were several vehicles travelling on this section of the road at the time, and I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has any information relating to this collision that has not yet come forward to please do so in order that we can speak to them.”

The road was closed for approximately six hours while collision Investigators carried out an examination of the scene.
