Tractor factor to beat the snow

Farmers are to help with snow clearing required in the west of the city, after a deal was struck with the city council.

Council chiefs had asked farmers in more rural areas of Edinburgh, such as Balerno, Currie and Kirkliston, about using their tractors to help get through severe weather. The deal, concluded with farmers yesterday, is part of the council’s wide-ranging attempts to ensure that the city is not caught out by another severe bout of bad weather, which brought parts of the Capital to a standstill last winter.
