Tourist on wrong side of A9 killed biker couple

A FRENCH tourist killed two Harley Davidson bikers by driving on the wrong side of the road and crashing into them, a court has heard.

Roland Jean Jacques Bayon, 61, yesterday admitted causing the deaths of husband and wife Peter and Jacqueline Corris in the tragedy in the Highlands last summer.

The couple, from Lancashire, had been enjoying a holiday during the Thunder in the Glens gathering in Aviemore, which attracted more than 2,000 Harley Davidson enthusiasts.

Mr Corris, 54, and his pillion passenger wife Jacqueline, 53, were on the A9 three miles south of Dalwhinnie when they were hit by Bayon's Renault.

At Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday Bayon admitted causing their deaths by driving carelessly on 29 August last year.

The couple were thrown from the bike in the collision and died of their injuries at the scene. The emergency services were called to the scene at 10:45am, but found the pair had already died.

Bayon, of Bourg-de-Page, in south-east France, was driving the car. All four occupants had to be cut free from the vehicle by firefighters.

Sheriff Andrew Berry deferred sentence until tomorrow for a social inquiry report.
