Tourist killed after being struck by van is named

AN elderly tourist killed after being struck by a van in the West End has been named by police.

Galina Tuyakova, from Moscow, Russia, was on holiday in the Capital when she was involved in the collision in Palmertson Place on Thursday night.

The 71-year-old was struck at the junction with Rothesay Place – a spot residents had warned was dangerous due to increased traffic as a result of the tramworks diversion.

Lothian and Borders Police have again appealed for witnesses to the incident, which took place at around 8.30pm, to come forward to assist their inquiries.

A spokesman said: “Some people have already come forward, but officers investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident are eager to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.”
