Top bars win awards for good work

LICENSED premises from across West Lothian have received awards for work in reducing alcohol-related disorder and promoting responsible drinking.

A total of 34 licensed venues were given a Best Bar None award at a ceremony, held in the Council Chambers at the West Lothian Civic Centre.

It was the fourth year the scheme has taken place, with 17 licensed premises being awarded a “gold” standard, the highest prize under the programme.

The Best Bar None awards sets minimum standards of operation for venues.

Chief Superintendent Jeanette McDiarmid said: “The Best Bar None scheme allows police officers and partners to work with the licensed trade to reduce crime and disorder in and around licensed venues by promoting best practice.

“It also gives licensed venues the benefit of police and fire service advice on all aspects of community safety.”

Cllr John Cochrane, chairman of the West Lothian licensing board, added: “All the premises taking part have demonstrated their commitment to the scheme.”
