Top architect dies aged 54

ONE of Scotland’s top architects and lighting engineers has died at the age of 54.

Jonathan Speirs, half of the multi-award winning Speirs and Major practice, built an international reputation for his lighting design.

In 2005, the Capital-based designer was named Lighting Designer of the Decade and in October 2010, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.

Mr Speirs, a father-of-two, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2010 and continued working until late last year.
