The brute, who has previous convictions for domestic abuse, is now facing a prison sentence after admitting the attack during an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

The court heard the couple had been in a relationship for 12 turbulent years but the pair had separated shortly before the attack on August 25 last year.

Depute fiscal Kirsty Anderson said Williamson and Ms Lovatt were at their home around Midday when he called her a slag and a whore after asking about whether she was seeing other men.

Ms Anderson added the woman was then forced to flee upstairs to a bedroom after she had told unemployed Williamson she was leaving him.

Ms Anderson said: He threw her onto the bed and threw a laundry basket at her. He then attempted to scrape off a tattoo that said Dylan.

The attack was eventually stopped when a passing witness heard Ms Lovatt desperately shouting for help from the house and called police.

The court also heard father-of-two Williamson had several previous domestic abuse convictions to his name and Sheriff Alistair Noble deferred sentence to next month for the preparation of reports.
