Thug jailed after breaking man’s jaw in random attack

POLICE have welcomed the sentencing of a man who broke his victim’s jaw after punching him in the face in an unprovoked attack.

Lewis Williams, 17, approached his 63-year-old victim, who was waiting at a bus stop at The Loan in Wallyford, East Lothian, and carried out the vicious assault.

The man was taken to hospital and underwent surgery for his injury while detectives scoured the local area to try and identify the suspect.

Williams was arrested and pled guilty to the attack at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on October 25. He has now been sentenced to nine months in prison.

A police spokesman said: “Lewis Williams did not know his victim, but carried out a needless and vicious assault that left the 63-year-old requiring hospital treatment.

“A full investigation was launched to identify the person responsible for this attack and we would like to thank the public for their assistance during our enquiries.”
