Three men and a woman sought by police after knifing in Leith

POLICE are said to be following a positive line of inquiry as they hunt a gang who left a man with serious stab wounds after a daylight brawl in Leith.

The 35-year-old victim was walking with his brother along the Water of Leith walkway near Sandport Place when an argument broke out between them and a group of three men and a woman.

The victim was followed into a car park area on Quayside Street, where one of the gang stabbed him several times with a knife at around 3.45pm on Tuesday.

The victim is on strong medication as he recovers in the ERI, although his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The suspect is described as being white, in his late 20s or early 30s, of slim build, wearing a distinctive black sweatshirt with orange writing.

The second man involved is described as also being in his late 20s or early 30s, white and of slim build. He is reported to have been wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white trainers. He was on crutches at the time.

The third male is described as being Asian and he was wearing a grey tracksuit. There is no description of the female available.

Acting detective sergeant Graham Grant said it was still unclear if the victim knew his attackers.

"There was a lot of shouting during this disturbance, and I wouldn't be surprised if several members of the public were alerted to the incident, but perhaps did not realise he had been stabbed.

"We are looking to recover the weapon, which caused quite significant harm."
