Three arrested after man’s body found in Aberdeen

THREE men have been arrested in connection with the death of a man whose body was found in the early hours of the morning, close to a boutique shopping mall near Aberdeen city centre.

The body of the man, named as Craig Grant, 26, from Aberdeenshire, was found close to the Galleria shopping centre in the city’s Langstane Place shortly after midnight, near to the entrance to the Tonik cocktail bar.

The area where the body was discovered was cordoned off for most of the morning while forensic officers carry out a detailed examination of the scene.

A spokesman for Aberdeen Division of Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the male who died following an incident in the Galleria area of Aberdeen City Centre has been named as Craig Grant, 26, of Aberdeenshire.

“His family have been informed and are being supported by a Police Family Liaison Officer.”

He added: “Three men, two of whom are 32 years old and another who is 21, have been arrested in connection with the incident. Officers were called to the area at around 12.10am on Friday. As the matter is now live, Police Scotland are unable to make any further comment.”

Chief Inspector Richard Craig, who is heading the investigation, had earlier appealed for mobile footage of the incident and what the force had earlier described as an “unexplained” death.

He said: “We are aware that this area would have been busy at the time with a number of people in the area.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward. We are also aware that people may have captured the incident or the aftermath of it on their mobile phones and we would urgently appeal for them to come forward as soon as possible.”

He added: “An enquiry team has been set up involving divisional and specialist resources to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death. We would like to thank the community for being patient while police carry out enquiries in the area.”
