Thieves steal medicine from hospital patient

A man was robbed of cash and medication as he made his way home from treatment at a hospital.

Police are hunting two men who robbed a patient on his way home from hospital.

The 58-year-old was walking from St Johns Hospital in Livingston at around 1am on Thursday morning when he was approached from behind by two men.

The men grabbed his jacket and stole money and medication which had been in a carrier bag.

The victim had been walking on a footpath outside the Riverside Veterinary Practice in Howden South Road when he was attacked.

He was shaken but uninjured, and contacted police shortly afterwards.

The first suspect is described as white, 20-25-years-old, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 10ins tall with a slim build, shaved dark hair and a clean-shaven face. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a dark tracksuit top and dark tracksuit bottoms with white stripes.

The second man is described as white, also in his early to mid twenties, around 5ft 5ins tall with a stocky build, short light coloured hair and a clean-shaven face. He also spoke with a local accent and was wearing a grey hooded top, light coloured bottoms and white trainers.

Detective Constable Jo McCall said: “This was a ordeal for the victim, who was making his way home after receiving treatment at a local hospital.

“While he was not injured during the robbery, has naturally been left shaken.”

She added: “The public can help us in our efforts to tackle acquisitive crime by ensuring they take appropriate steps to maximise their own personal safety, such as always being aware of their surroundings and staying within well-lit public areas if walking alone.”
