Thief snatches OAP's handbag in street attack

A PENSIONER had her handbag stolen as she was walking towards a bingo hall in the city.

A man grabbed the 75-year-old's red bag from behind on Manderston Street, near Mecca Bingo, at 7:15pm on Monday.

The thief was then seen running off in the direction of Easter Road.

The man was white, 5ft 10in tall and slim. He was wearing dark clothing and a dark hat.

The theft follows an attempted robbery in Cambridge Avenue on Sunday at 7:45pm.

A 39-year-old woman and a friend were at the junction with Balfour Street when two men walked by.

One grabbed her bag from behind but, after a struggle, gave up and ran off towards Pilrig Street.

The first suspect is white, between 18 and 22, 5ft 6in tall, slim and was wearing a dark hooded top and dark trousers.

The other man is also white, aged 14 to 16, 5ft 6in tall and slim, with short brown hair and "bug eyes". He was wearing a grey jumper.
