Thief crashes stolen car in failed escape

A THIEF who stole a car in the Capital crashed it as he tried to escape.

Police officers rushed to the scene of the incident yesterday morning after receiving reports of the collision between the stolen car and three other vehicles at the junction of Craigmillar Castle Road and Peffer Bank.

The crew of an ambulance passing by at the time of the crash checked for casualties, but medics said no-one at the scene required hospital 
treatment.

Detectives said inquiries into the theft of the vehicle from Lochend Road were ongoing.

A police spokesman said: “The car was involved in collisions with a number of stationary vehicles on Smokey Brae and Duddingston Road West before coming to a stop in Craigmillar Castle Road.

“Inquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible for this theft.”
