Tenor’s show Dalai-emma

Martin Aelred, a Scots-born tenor has been invited to sing to His Holiness The Dalai Lama at the sold-out Usher Hall event.

The Buddhist spiritual leader is known to be a fan of opera, and Mr Aelred will perform Nella Fantasia and Nessun Dorma at the event on June 22.

Mr Aelred said: “I’m deeply honoured to have been invited perform. I wasn’t quite sure about singing an aria that is a Chinese love story. I spoke with some of the Tibetans in Edinburgh and they reassured me.”
