Tenants fear as cuts hit

A SURVEY of the tenants of a Lothians housing association has found 85 per cent are worried how they will cope once welfare reforms take effect.

The survey of 200 tenants was carried out by Midlothian-based Melville Housing in the wake of major UK government reforms of the welfare benefits system.

As well as a high level of concern, almost six out of ten of those who replied would also fall foul of the government’s new bedroom tax, which reduces housing benefit payments for every spare bedroom a tenant has.
