Tenants’ deposit scheme is praised

SCOTLAND’S new tenancy deposit scheme has seen more than 35,000 deposits worth a total of more than £23 million paid into it since its launch in July.

Housing Minister Margaret Burgess today hailed the success of the scheme as she addressed a National Landlord Day conference at Edinburgh’s Our Dynamic Earth,

The scheme aims to safeguard rent deposits for households by taking deposits from landlords or their agents for safekeeping. Tenants will have a quicker and cheaper alternative to taking legal action through a sheriff court to recover unfairly withheld deposits.
