Ten people saved in ‘deliberate’ East Kilbride blaze

A FIRE that led to the rescue of ten people from a block of flats was started deliberately, police believe.

The residents were trapped above a second-floor fire at the building in Glen Moy, in the St Leonards area of East Kilbride, in what officers described as a “terrifying experience”.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service sent three crews to the blaze after receiving a number of calls at about 3:30am yesterday.

No-one was hurt in the blaze, but police said they might have been dealing with serious injuries or fatalities if it had not

been for the speedy action of

the occupants and emergency services.
