Temperatures plunge to -15C

Temperatures are set to drop to -15C in parts of the Lothians tonight, the Met Office has warned.

While no more heavy snowfalls are forecast for the coming days, temperatures are to remain low.

Met Office spokeswoman Sarah Holland said: "Tonight temperatures will go down to -11C, maybe -12C in the Edinburgh area, as you get to more rural locations maybe -15C.

"As we move into Wednesday there's no more snow on the cards but very misty, freezing fog during the day. It's not going to get much above -4C on Wednesday.

"Temperatures are not as bad on Wednesday evening - around -5C or -6C - and as we move into Thursday/Friday, probably getting some sunny spells, and temperatures about freezing. There is obviously going to be a chance of snow but the main problem is going to be the ice."

All schools in Edinburgh were set to open today, except for Davidson's Mains nursery.
