Teenage victim suffers head injuries in underpass attack

A TEENAGE boy suffered head injuries after being seriously assaulted in an attack which police are treating as a hate crime.

The 17-year-old victim was set upon in an underpass at Calder Road at around 9.40pm on Thursday.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with the assault, which is being investigated as a hate crime.

He will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

Police are keen to trace two witnesses seen on CCTV cameras in the underpass.

A police spokesman said: “We know that two people walked through the underpass while the assault was taking place, and we are looking to trace them as a matter of urgency.

“We would like to take this opportunity to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident, for which we have arrested an individual, and is not part of any wider pattern of violence in the area.”
