Teenage girl killed in Borders lorry crash named

A SEVENTEEN-year-old girl who died after being hit by a lorry in Dumfries and Galloway has been named by police.

Emma Harkness, 17, was struck by the vehicle in West Morton Street near its junction with Drumlanrig Street at around 5pm last night, police said.

The teenager, from nearby Penpont, was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Infirmary but died of her injuries.

The 48-year-old lorry driver was not hurt.

Crash investigators attended the scene and the road was closed for around seven hours.
