Taxi driver hit in face with glass bottle

A taxi driver was left with a broken nose after he was hit in the face with a glass bottle by a passenger.

The incident happened around 11pm when the driver had picked up a fare from the city centre and dropped off two men and a woman at Niddrie House Avenue.

As the driver opened the door of the taxi to assist the passengers, he was struck to the face with a glass bottle by one of the males.

Police are now appealing for anyone in the area who has information to come forward to police immediately.

PC Victoria Henretty said: “This was a completely unprovoked and violent assault on a taxi driver, and we are appealing for anyone who was in Niddrie House Avenue on Sunday 5th April at around 11pm to contact police, particularly if you have information that in relation to the identity of the suspects.”
