Tangled nets cause trawler rescue mission

THE crew of a trawler had to be rescued by lifeboat after they snagged their own nets in the propeller.

Prawn trawler Guess Again was stranded in the Forth, 12 miles off the East Lothian coast, after the mishap.

The 30ft vessel was under the control of a relief skipper – who faced a ribbing on his return to the boat’s home port of Pittenweem, Fife.

Harbour master Alex Gardener said Kirk Doig was facing a few jokes at his expense.

He said: “Nets getting tangled in propellers is definitely not common, not to my
knowledge anyway.

“I don’t think anyone will be too harsh, but I would definitely expect them to get a hard time in the pub for this.”

A spokesman for the Coastguard said: “We were alerted at 7.13am to the fishing vessel Guess Again where two people were in need of assistance. The lifeboat was then sent out to tow the boat back to shore.”
