Talks start on plan for 20mph zones for residential streets

A CONSULTATION is to take place on trialling a 20mph speed limit on residential roads in Dunbar.

The trial, which will only go ahead if the majority of residents in the affected area are in favour, would include residential roads south of the East Coast Main Line.

The consultation will take place throughout October and all those living in relevant areas will receive an information leaflet and questionnaire through the door.

A display board about the proposals will also be set up at the Bleachingfield Centre, Countess Crescent, from October 2 to 31.

Council’s transport spokesman Councillor Michael Veitch, pictured, said: “The new council administration is enthusiastic about 20mph speed limits on safety grounds. However, as we said in our council plan, this must be subject to the support of local residents. I would therefore encourage people to respond to the questionnaires and to let us know what they think.”
