Table set for city museum

A 17TH CENTURY table carved by the “Michelangelo of wood” is set to go on display in the Capital after being bought as part of a pair by National Museums Scotland (NMS).

The museum, in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, paid £735,900 for the two parade tables believed to have been carved by the Italian sculptor Andrea Brustolon for the Doge of Venice.

NMS will own one of the tables, and chairman Sir Angus Grossart said it would “greatly enhance” Scotland’s collections of European art and design.
