Superbug drug warning

ANTIBIOTICS should not be available to patients over the counter at pharmacies as the NHS battles to prevent the rise in hospital superbugs, doctors have warned.

The inappropriate use of antibiotics and growing resistance to the drugs if they are not used properly has been linked to the growth in infections such as MRSA in hospitals.

Doctors at the British Medical Association conference in Brighton yesterday voted in favour of stopping any more antibiotics being made available without a prescription for the foreseeable future.
