Success of city’s BioQuarter praised in House of Commons

the Capital’s BioQuarter has been praised in the House of Commons.

The area on the south of the city, set up to encourage academic researchers to work with the private sector, was praised on Monday during a debate on the relationship between the NHS and the life sciences industry. Edinburgh West MP Mike Crockart called on Health Minister Andrew Lansley to join him in recognising the work under way at the BioQuarter.

Discussing the Government’s plans for support of the bio-pharmaceutical industry in the UK, Mr Crockart said: “The strategy announced today is dependent on the sector’s ability to translate research into commercial outcomes. Edinburgh’s Bio-Quarter, sharing a campus as it does with the Royal Infirmary, is uniquely placed to do exactly this; securing early adoption and positive commercial outcomes. Edinburgh is recognised as having state-of-the-art facilities and world-leading researchers. It is time the commercial success of that innovative work is celebrated.”
