Students size up a new lesson in fashion

Edinburgh College of Art is leading the way in helping to create more inclusive clothing for the retail fashion trade.

The college will be the first in the UK to use tailor’s dummies,which range up to size 20.

Fashion commentator and former presenter of the BBC’s Clothes Show Caryn Franklin joined students to unveil the project yesterday.

Ms Franklin is the co-founder of All Walks Beyond The Catwalk, a UK-wide campaign to encourage and celebrate more diversity within the fashion industry.

As the All Walks Centre of Diversity, the college is working closely with the campaign to introduce innovative educational methods and promote a positive attitude to body diversity within fashion education.

The mannequins are part of the college’s ongoing commitment to this ethos. The standard size of mannequins used by fashion students is size 10, the art college’s eight new ones will range from size 14 through to size 20.
