Students set for a CERN talking to

THE director of one of the world’s biggest science experiments is to give a talk to students and academics in the Capital.

Professor Rolf Heuer, the director general at CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, will be presenting a lecture to an invited audience of students, academics and secondary school pupils at Heriot-Watt University tomorrow.

The talk, entitled “The search of a deeper understanding of our universe at the Large Hadron Collider: the world’s largest particle accelerator”, will address how, with the start of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, particle physics entered a new era. The talk will present some of the reasons for the excitement surrounding the LHC, which is expected to yield insights into the origin of mass.

The lecture will also be video streamed live via the university’s website.
