Students’ association sustains environment success

EDINBURGH University Students’ Association (EUSA) has won a gold standard for its environmental efforts for the fourth consecutive year

It was honoured in the National Union of Students’ Green Impact Students’ Union GISU Awards. And it took second place in the UK overall.

Philippa Faulkner, EUSA’s vice-president for services, said: “We are delighted to have done so well again in this prestigious initiative – we seem to keep going from strength to strength.

“GISU has been the backbone of our approach to sustainability across campus insofar as it has provided the structure and recording mechanisms to keep track of most of what we do.

“Crucially, our students and societies – of which at least 18 now have a sustainability element in their credo – ensure, however, that we don’t rest on our laurels.

“Their ideas, enthusiasm and support have resulted in us taking massive strides this year in sustainable transport, sustainable and fair accommodation, welfare of workers in developing nations, and our continued championing of the Fair Trade ethos.”
