Student union hails pay rise

THE Scottish branch of the National Union of Students has welcomed a “huge step forward” after the Scottish Government announced a new minimum income for the poorest students of £7250.

All students, whatever their circumstances, will be eligible for a loan of £4500 a year.

Robin Parker, NUS Scotland president, said: “The announcements are a huge step forward and a victory for years of campaigning by countless students across Scotland.”

Meanwhile, the University and College Union Scotland also welcomed the increases.
