Streets to get new speed-sensitive signs

Three streets in Edinburgh are to get new road safety measures to try to reduce the number of accidents.

Vehicle-activated signs that clock drivers’ speeds and tell them to slow down are to be introduced on Lasswade Road, Lanark Road West and two locations on Duddingston Road West.

Each site is expected to get two signs, at a cost of around £5000. Funds will come from the council’s road safety budget for 2012/13.

A series of eight “speed indicating signs” – temporary signs that detect an approaching vehicle’s speed and can display the speed and also an additional message – are also to be purchased from this year’s budget at a cost of £20,000.
