Store loses Holyrood appeal over food preparation

A CITY shop chain has been denied permission to change the use of part of its store.

Margiotta, which has shops throughout Edinburgh, wanted to use part of its Lasswade outlet to prepare food and make adjustments to the building accordingly.

The city council denied this consent in the middle of last year, forcing bosses to appeal to the Scottish Government.

However, Scottish Government planning reporter Philip Hutchinson backed the local authority’s decision, saying changes to the business could go ahead without the dramatic alterations.

He said: “I dismiss this appeal and refuse to grant planning permission.”
