Stirling student smashes tutor door for poor grade

• A student smashed a lecturer’s door and caused £150 worth of damage after receiving poor essay mark

• Nat Tantisukrit, 22, inflicted damage on door with baseball bat

Nat Tantisukrit, 22, a business management student at the university, said he was upset after narrowly failing some coursework.

At a meeting between Tantisukrit and a lecturer arranged to discuss the grade, the student, from Thailand, became angry and began shouting at him, claiming he was “unfairly treated.”

The student also said: “You don’t like me, you talk to me different from everybody else.”

Tantisukrit was then asked to leave the office by the lecturer, who locked the door behind him.

It was at this point that Tantisukrit began to smash the door with a baseball bat he had been carrying, causing £150 worth of damage.

Tantisukrit is a third year student who has been studying at the university since 2009.

Tantisukrit pled guilty to causing a breach of the peace by shouting and swearing, acting in a disorderly manner, and hitting the door with the sports bat.

Solicitor-advocate George Pollock, defending, said: “He felt himself under pressure to succeed, was upset at failing the essay, and felt he was being unfairly treated.

“He was ushered from the room and swung the bat at the door. There is no suggestion of personal violence.”

Sheriff Anwar, who fined Tatisukrit £120, said: “You are a student, one who has gained entry to Stirling University, and one that should have a bright future ahead.

“Here you have been the master of you own demise.”
