Starvation caused death of neglected dog

A YOUNG dog was starved to death in an “extremely serious” case of animal neglect, the Scottish SPCA (SSPCA) said yesterday.

The year-old collie cross was found dead in Glasgow weighing about a third of what it should have been.

The SSPCA said the case was “one of the worst” it had yet investigated.

Local council workers found the dog’s body in a housing scheme in Drumchapel, in the west of the city, on Tuesday.

It weighed just seven kilogrammes – the normal weight for the breed is 20 kilogrammes.

The dog also had overgrown claws, indicating that it had not been outside for some time. It is thought his body had been dumped where it was found, behind flats in Southdeen Avenue.
