Star was twice the limit when killed in crash

A YOUNG Scottish international rugby player was more than twice the limit and driving without his seat belt when he was killed in a car crash last year, an inquest has heard.

Mitchell Todd – who qualified for Scotland through his Edinburgh-born dad – was found in his car in a field in Nottinghamshire last August by a member of the public.

An inquest at Nottingham Town Hall into his death heard empty bottles of wine and cans of beer were found in the vehicle alongside the 21-year-old.

A post-mortem confirmed Todd, who represented Scotland under-20s in last season’s Six Nations and featured in the Junior World Cup, died from a catastrophic brain injury.

Assistant deputy coroner Jane Gillespie recorded a verdict of accidental death. She added: “I extend my deepest sympathies to Mitchell’s family and friends.”
