SSPCA appeal for information after abandoned dog is found emaciated

THE Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a severely emaciated dog was found abandoned on Ayr Beach.

A member of the public contacted Scotland’s animal welfare charity after they discovered the tan female lurcher on the beach on Sunday.

SSPCA Inspector Kerry Kirkpatrick rushed the one and a half year old dog to a vet where she was given fluids. The lurcher, who has been named Honey, is now continuing to receive treatment in the charity’s care.

Inspector Kirkpatrick said: “Honey is severely underweight and every bone is clearly visible to see and touch. She also has puncture wounds on her head which may be a result of a bite by another dog.

“The vet said the injury is only a few days old but thankfully it has healed and isn’t infected. Honey has now been put on a weight gain diet and we’re hopeful she will make a full recovery.”

She added: “A dog doesn’t become this underweight overnight and we are therefore treating this as a case of suspected cruelty. We would appeal to anyone who knows who may have owned Honey to come forward.”
