SSPCA appeal to find owner of elderly collie dog found lying by the roadside

A NEGLECTED elderly dog had to be put down after being found lying by the roadside in West Lothian.

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information on the dog, saying it should have received medical treatment "long before" it was found last Friday.

The distressed tan and white female collie was discovered by a member of the public in Strathlogie, Westfield, on the outskirts of Bathgate, who contacted the animal welfare charity.

The dog was rushed to a local vet where she was given emergency treatment, but her condition severely deteriorated over the weekend and vets had to put her to sleep.

Scottish SPCA Inspector Jenni Surgeon said: "Unfortunately she is not identity micro-chipped and she wasn't wearing a collar, but we are hoping someone will recognise her and give us a call. She should have received vet treatment long before now so this is something we'd like to discuss with her owner."
