Sports talks focus on cuts

City chiefs say they are in “close dialogue” with the company that runs the Capital’s sports facilities about how cuts to funding will affect services.

Edinburgh Leisure has been hit by annual reductions in the funding it receives from the city council and has already closed the Crags Sports Centre and Queensferry Recreation Centre.

It also agreed in November to make another £1 million of savings through “less generous” concessions, including the older adult monthly membership going up from £20 to £26.70.

Cllr Deidre Brock, the city’s sports leader, said: “The council and Edinburgh Leisure have been in dialogue to ensure that the optimum level of services can continue to be provided.”
