SPCA investigate after dog thrown from car window

ANIMAL welfare officers have appealed for information after a dog was thrown from a car window in Edinburgh.

The Scottish SPCA were alerted by a concerned member of the public when the male Border cVllie cross was found roaming the streets on Tuesday evening.

She told officers that two people were trying to catch the Collie-Labrador cross - named Jack - after they witnessed a car pull up on Mayfield Road and dump the dog before driving away.

Senior Inspector John Toule said, “The lady who called us saw two people, who we understand are students, trying to catch Jack around 8pm and took him home.

“She was told someone had stopped their car on Mayfield Road, thrown Jack out and driven away.

“Although Jack has a microchip, which told us his name, he was registered as missing in 2013 and his previous owner, who was from Musselburgh, sadly passed away last year.

“Unfortunately, we do not have a description of the car or driver. We would urge anyone with information to call our animal helpline on 03000 999 999 and are particularly keen to hear from the two people who were trying to help Jack.

“Jack is in reasonable condition though he has no hair on his underside, which is being assessed by a vet.”

The dog is being cared for at the charity’s rehoming centre in Balerno.
