Sparkling support for old cinema

Labour MSP Sarah Boyack joined members of the Southside Community Council to light up the former Odeon cinema in South Clerk Street with sparklers on Bonfire Night.

The event was in support of plans to bring the building back into use. The B-listed cinema has lain empty since 2003.

Elim Pentecostal Church, which already runs a commercial cinema in London's Notting Hill, wants to buy it for 1.8 million and restore it as a two-screen cinema.
