Sir Chris Hoy withdraws from Glasgow World Cup

Capital Olympic hero Sir Chris Hoy will not be competing at the Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow later this year, the London Games hero revealed yesterday.

Fans were hoping to see the six-time Olympic champion in action at the East End velodrome – named after him – in November.

But yesterday he tweeted: “For those asking about Glasgow WC in Nov, I won’t be racing but definitely will be there spectating. Hopefully will see some of you there!”

His spokesman, Rob Woodhouse, said: “Chris won’t be competing in the event. He’s just had the Olympics and like some of the other veterans he is taking an extended break.

“He’s putting his feet up, having a good break and weighing up his future.”
