Simon Cowell must wait for Edinburgh’s Got Talent winner

This year’s Edinburgh’s Got Talent winner Caitlyn Vanbeck was so stunned by her success, a chance to appear on a TV show was the last thing on her mind.

The 13-year-old Ross High School pupil, who lives in Tranent with mum Marina and dad Paul, captivated the audience with her performance of Adele’s Don’t You Remember.

She was due to head down to Manchester to audition for Britain’s Got Talent the following Monday, but she admits she was so “hyper” she decided not to go.

Caitlyn, who continues to be the star of the show at school, said: “My teachers have stuck the Evening News coverage up on a wall at school.

“There’s even a big digital board at the front of the school and it’s got my name on it.

“Everyone at school has been saying ‘well done’ and asking for free tickets to see me when I’m famous.”

Caitlyn – who is to perform at the Radio Forth Awards on Thursday at the Usher Hall – started singing around the age of three and is a member of Brunton Youth Theatre.

She said: “I used to take my dummy out in the car and sing along to songs on the radio.”

A fan of boyband The Wanted – and, of course, Adele – she joined Corstorphine-based Razzamataz Theatre School around 18 months ago, where she does singing, dancing and drama every Saturday.

Caitlyn revealed: “On the Monday after Edinburgh’s Got Talent I was due to go down to Manchester to audition for Britain’s Got Talent, but I didn’t go because I was still feeling so hyper.”

But she said she is not ruling out auditioning in the future, especially with her friends advising her to go in for the X Factor when she is old enough.

Asked how her win has affected her, she said: “Winning Edinburgh’s Got Talent has definitely given me more confidence.

“I have been looking in to lots of new songs, some by Adele and also Amy Winehouse.

“Hopefully after school I’m going to go on to study music or theatre at college. I would like to focus more on music, and obviously my singing as well.”

Caitlyn, who plays the piano, said: “I’ve written a few songs, but so far only the lyrics. I like to write about my family, friends, things that have happened to me.”

Caitlyn’s win has proved a boost for her social life as well. “I’m getting asked to hang out with a lot more people now,” she joked. “We’re doing a talent show at school. I was going to go in for it, but now I’ve been asked just to perform in it.”

It appears Caitlyn is wiser than her years when it comes to spending her £1000 prize money.

She said: “I think I’m going to be sensible and put the money in a bank account – but I did spend some on a pair of shoes. That was my wee treat.”
