Shortlist for waste plant

Edinburgh and Midlothian councils have narrowed down the list of firms bidding to operate a major waste plant on the outskirts of the Capital.

Alauna Renewable Energy and Viridor Waste Management have been shortlisted to operate a plant to be built at Millerhill in Midlothian.

The facility will recycle waste from both local authorities and serve as a heat and power plant.

Once the contract is awarded later this year, planning permission can be approved for the plant.

Both councils aim to hit zero waste targets and cut down on rubbish sent to landfill.
