The shoppers: 'The best thing is the buzz'

Keiran Masih, 14, and Ryan Clouston, 15, from Edinburgh were out spending their Christmas money.

Their top bargains were a hoody, down from 110 to 40, and a pair of jogging bottoms down from 40 to 30, both from Footlocker.

"We were here around ten-ish, because he forgot to get up," said Ryan. "Coming out on Boxing Day gives you a chance to spend your money. Tomorrow things will be out of stock and they won't have your size."

Manav Girohtra of Edinburgh, his sister Priyanka, brother Abhinav - both visiting from India - and friend Arush Kapoor were was up at 6am to hit the shops in Princes Street.

Their top bargains were a jacket from USC, reduced from 140 to 40, and Next shoes, down from 70 to 30. "The shops have been really busy, we were in Next at quarter past seven and had to queue at the till for half an hour," said Priyanka.

Lily Michajlow, from Edinburgh, was partying until 4am yesterday but still made it to Princes Street by 10am. Her top bargains were a dress, some shoes and a top, for 40 from Next.

"The best thing about Boxing Day shopping is the buzz," she said. "I love it. It's part and parcel of Christmas. Mad as it might seem, I like the queues and all the people. I know the shops I'm going to, I'm organised that way. I'll be out until I've got what I'm looking for - shop till you drop."
