Shop duo hunted after assault on good Samaritan

POLICE have released CCTV footage in a bid to trace two men in connection with a late-night attack on a good Samaritan.

The 25-year-old victim needed surgery on a broken jaw when he was assaulted after apparently intervening in an argument between a security guard and two men at the 24-hour Scotmid store in Nicolson Street.

Investigations into the attack, which saw the victim punched, knocked to the ground and kicked around the head, are continuing with police now wanting to trace the two men in the footage.

A Scotmid spokeswoman described the assault, which happened at 3.45am on December 17, as “horrendous” and said the firm was co-operating with police.

“We have zero tolerance for any form of verbal or physical attack on our staff or our customers,” she said. “This was a horrendous attack and we hope that the release of the CCTV footage will get a good response from the public so that the perpetrators can be brought to justice.”

The two suspects, who are both white and believed to be in their early 20s, made off south along Nicolson Street.

The first is described as stocky, 5ft 8in and wearing a dark top and jeans, Timberland-style boots and a woolly hat.

The second is slim, about 5ft 10in, with short dark hair, and wearing a grey top and jeans.

A police spokesman said: “The CCTV images show both men within the Scotmid store, and we are appealing to anyone who recognises them to come forward.

“Anyone with any other information that can assist our inquiries should also get in touch.”
