Shooting of alleged thief by police caught on video

A VIDEO appearing to show paramilitary forces killing an unarmed teenager in the port city of Karachi is being investigated by Pakistan's authorities.

Video aired repeatedly on TV yesterday showed the bleeding teenager begging for help.

A spokesman for the paramilitary unit said its forces detained 18-year-old Afsar Shah attempting to rob people in a Karachi park on Wednesday.

Video aired by local Awaz TV seemed to contradict the claim that Shah posed a threat.

It showed a man in civilian clothes wrestling what appeared to be a gun out of Shah's hand and kicking him toward uniformed soldiers. Shah is then seen pleading with the soldiers, one of whom points a gun at his neck. He is then surrounded and pleads "No, no, don't kill me brother" before being pushed back and shot in the arm and leg.
